The International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) credential is considered the highest level of qualification in breastfeeding knowledge that is recognised the world over. International Board Certified Lactation Consultants function and contribute as members of the maternal-child health team. They provide care in a variety of settings, while making appropriate referrals to other health professionals and community support resources. Working together with families, policymakers, and society, IBCLCs provide expert breastfeeding and lactation care, promote changes that support breastfeeding and help reduce the risks of not breastfeeding.
As of March 2025, Worldwide there are 38,145 IBCLCs
Of these, there are 967 IBCLCs in the UK.

My name is June Samm. I am a wife, Mum to 4 boys (who would all hate to be called that as they are all adults now!), a Nanna to 1 Grandson, and have a golden retriever called Penelope.
I have been a qualified midwife since 2014, and have been the lead infant feeding midwife for my local hospital trust for over 2 years now.
I sat my IBCLC exam on the same day my grandson was born, and received confirmation I had passed just before Christmas 2024! I have always had a passion and drive to support families to feed their babies in a way that is right for them, whilst supporting and advocating for breastfeeding as long as the mother-baby dyad wants to.
